A solid wood wall shelf is the simplest way to get things off a floor and onto a blank wall, and this one does it without a drill. The mounting system fixes to the surface without boring holes, which matters in a rented flat or on a finished plaster wall you would rather not repair later. It is the shelf you can put up and take down without leaving a mark. No-drill fixing is the single most useful feature a shelf can have in a rented flat.

Each board is solid wood, 1.5 centimetres thick, in lengths of 30, 60 and 90 centimetres with a depth of 12 or 15. Finishes are natural wood, walnut or white. Hardware is included and no drilling is required. Solid timber rather than veneered board is what allows the slim thickness without the shelf bowing under a load. Solid wood at 1.5 centimetres carries a longer span without sagging than a veneered board of the same depth.

At 30 centimetres it takes a plant and a candle; at 90 it holds a run of books or framed photographs. Two or three at staggered heights turn a blank wall into storage that reads as display.
