An oval, where most walls default to circles
Mirrored glass over the dial
Seiko quartz movement, 8mm thick
Description
An oval quartz wall clock breaks the run of squares and circles that most walls default to, and the softened ellipse reads as furniture rather than instrument. Mirrored glass over the face picks up the room behind it, so the piece shifts through the day as the light moves across it. In a dining room it works as much as a mirror as a clock. Oval clocks are uncommon, which is most of why this one registers as a decorative object first.
It measures 30 or 40 centimetres wide at just 8 millimetres thick, on a Seiko PC32 quartz movement running from a battery. The frame is wood and the glass is mirrored over a paper-coated dial, which is what gives the face depth rather than a flat printed look. The clock arrives with mounting hardware and an instruction manual. Seiko movements are the standard reference for quartz accuracy at this price.
Over a sideboard it reflects the light from a pendant above the table. In a living room the wood frame keeps it warm against a pale wall. The shallow thickness means it sits close to the plaster instead of standing proud. DecorNestHub supplies it complete and ready to mount. The mirrored face means the clock changes appearance depending on what is opposite it.
