Description
An iron candle holder gives a bare tabletop a vertical line and a single point of flame. Its open base takes special, cup, block and branch candles, so it is not tied to one shape of wax. The weight sits low in the base, which is what keeps a tall taper upright rather than leaning as it burns down. A candle holder has to be heavier than the candle it carries, which is where thin metal versions fail.
The frame is iron, made at 16 by 16 by 16 centimetres in the small size and 17.5 by 17.5 by 19 in the large, weighing 0.3 and 0.38 kilograms. Colours are black or gold, produced by a mix of manual and mechanical work, and each holder is packed in an individual carton box. Iron takes heat without deforming, unlike a coated or resin base.
